New OCULUS GONIO ready®: Two-handed MIGS now possible for the first time
OCULUS Rings in New Era in Glaucoma Surgery
The new GONIO ready® by OCULUS is simply a brilliant invention: When performing MIGS, surgeons can now attach the gonio lens to the microscope rather than having to hold the gonio lens with one hand. This gives them two free hands for the surgery.
Christian Kirchhübel, CEO of OCULUS, is proud of the new product. “Being able to use both hands for the MIGS operation opens up new possibilities for surgeons and adds a degree of safety for both the surgeon and the patient. Our new GONIO ready® will benefit anyone already using a gonio lens.”
With the new GONIO ready®, the gonio lens is attached to the microscope via an adapter with a flexible “swan neck”, referred to as the Flex System. This avoids any additional pressure against the patient’s eye. The Flex System is flexible enough to be moved around during MIGS yet sufficiently resistant to movement as not to be inadvertently displaced.
The OCULUS GONIO ready® is designed for single use, meaning that every operation starts out with an impeccable lens. The OCULUS quality lens provides excellent depth of field and, despite its small size, an unusually large field of view. Another benefit of the single-use solution is that no time is lost to sterilization in ensuring that a quality lens is ready to hand for every operation.
“With the launch of the new GONIO ready® OCULUS Surgical is now enabling glaucoma and cataract surgeons to benefit from experiences previously gained in retinal surgery”, Steffen Adamowicz, Director of OCULUS Surgical, comments on the premiere. “When we introduced the BIOM® system almost 40 years ago it revolutionized wide-angle viewing techniques in vitreoretinal surgery. Now glaucoma specialists can look forward to the revolutionizing capabilities of the GONIO ready® and how it will make their daily surgical work easier and more efficient.”
The GONIO ready® will be presented to the professional public for the first time at the APAO in Malaysia in February 2023. It will not yet be available and approved in every country by that date.
More opportunities to see the new GONIO ready® are waiting at a number of upcoming ophthalmological congresses such as
AGS, Austin, Texas, USA
PAAO, Buenos Aires, Argentina
ASCRS, San Diego, USA
WGC, Rome, Italy
